Is it better to travel without travel guides?
Imagine the time to go to an unknown destination arrives, and maybe for many, the idea of traveling without a guidebook at hand, has the same feeling without leaving your home or cell phone in a pocket. To contradict, there are expert travelers do not hesitate to assert that that “the road is made by walking.”
To illustrate, in a interview published in amazing 101 points to one of the most-traveled people in the world (Jorge Sanchez), a phrase that became the title of the note and triggered a small debate slid comments:
“I have nothing planned when I travel, and of course, never charge my small bag of croutons those books that tourists and travelers call “guidelines” . Travellers consult local people and they give you valuable advice on the regions and places to visit, the natives are the best guides ”
If we stay with the philosophy of this seasoned traveler, the guides should pull or perhaps look at them before leaving, and leaving them nicely stored somewhere in house. To convince us that the guide books do not work, we may mark a path with good reason, but simply that it will not be the most spontaneous way to travel. What’s more, there are guide books that are a great counterweight in any of the ways that we would transport them (hence the tostones?).
On the other hand, for those who think that the guides printed books such as Lonely Planet are things of the past, no foul argue that they will never be replaced by mobile devices with internet access, for the simple reason that situations as common as running out batteries would let us “in the middle of nowhere informative.”
The question is simple: if they experience long trips, and someone has missed a travel guide, or on the contrary, has regretted not leave it at home, what recommend in each case and why?.
In my opinion, a lot has to do the travel destination, but also our way to travel and meet road adventure. In my case, I think it would be very likely that a guide to take to an unknown destination, return with their almost intact leaves, and rather prefer to take the place of a guide with a good book of travelogues resulting me inspiring. Although everyone will find their own arguments and styles of travel.
